Who does the PWO represent?
PWO represents postgraduate researchers (PGRs) in Ireland. These include PhD researchers and those doing a Master’s in research.
Is there a membership fee?
As of now, becoming a member of PWO is free. All you need is to fill in the membership form.
What happens after I graduate?
If you are not a PGR any more, you may notify us by email at committee@pwo.ie and if you prefer to stay connected you can become a friend of the PWO by filling this form.
How can I stay updated with the events, actions or activities of the PWO?
You can stay updated about news, events and activities of the PWO by following us on social media. We are active on Instagram and Twitter. You can also join our WhatsApp groups- the National group chat and your university branch group chat – to stay updated on events and discussions with the PWO members. All PWO members will be notified by email about updates and events.
*All members of group chats are expected to be members of PWO. We kindly ask all participants to generate discussion about PhD life and avoid promoting businesses and unrelated events and activities.
What if I have a complaint about the PWO?
You can share any grievance relating to the PWO or it’s local branches through committee@pwo.ie
What are some of the campaigns that the PWO has worked on?
The PWO has worked on several campaigns since our official launch in January 2023.
The PWO has lobbied DFHERIS on several demands including a living wage, employment rights, better Visa conditions for non-EU/EEA PGRs, and PGR disability rights.
The National Review of PhD supports has been the outcome of lengthy lobbying work from the PWO. The outcome of the review saw the increase of various stipends to 25k and the SFI and IRC stipends to 22k.
What is the PWO position on employment status?
Employment status is one of PWO’s core demands under the Fair Postgraduate Researcher Agreement (FRA)
